What’s Making Me Happy This Week: Crypt Records
This is “What’s Making Me Happy This Week,” a weekly feature inspired by the Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast. It’s pretty self-explanatory.
What’s Making Me Happy This Week is a passage I read in the book Retromania: Pop Culture’s Addiction to Its Own Past by music writer Simon Reynolds. In this passage Reynolds is describing the lengths to which one man was willing to go in his devotion to 1960’s garage rock (one of many “retro” genres explored in the book). The except is below – it begins with the first full paragraph on page 264 and ends after the first full paragraph on page 265. I’ll let you read for yourself …
Characters like Warren are one of the things that music is all about. I wish I’d had a chance to meet him here in Brooklyn and visit his store before he relocated to Germany. It must have been quite the sight.
And That’s What’s Making Me Happy This Week.
